Tim Slade reached a career milestone at the Coates Hire Ipswich SuperSprint, notching up his 200th V8 Supercars start in today’s second race.
The Supercheap Auto Racing Commodore driver finished 12th and 15th in the twin 60km dashes at Queensland Raceway, gaining a position in the series standings, and heads into tomorrow’s 200km race with mixed feelings.
After setting the second quickest time in practice yesterday, Slade said he’s disappointed with mid pack results, but was happy with gains made on the hard tyre.
“We definitely improved on the hard tyre today, but we weren’t as strong on the soft in qualifying trim,” Slade said.
“Qualifying is always so tight here, and I know there is definitely more time in the Supercheap Auto Commodore.
“You only need to find a tenth of a second or two around Queensland Raceway to make up a few spots on the grid, so we’ll go over the data tonight and find the right changes for tomorrow.”
A 20-minute qualifying session at 12pm sets the grid for tomorrow’s 65-lap Ipswich finale, which takes place at 2:10pm.
