Engine

The VF Commodore Walkinshaw Racing 5.0 litre fuel injected V8 has WR developed cylinder heads, fuel injection, intake and exhaust system and a category controlled MoTec Engine Management Control System. The engine costs is approximately $120,000! The engines will have a minor service every 1,500km and will undertake a major rebuild every 3000km.

Gearbox & Transaxle

All V8 Supercars use an Albins ST6 6 speed transaxle which combines gearbox and transaxle into one unit, which is located in the rear of the car. The oil used in the gearbox and differential is blended specifically to meet the high temperatures and extreme workload that the cars encounter.

All V8 Supercars use the same gearbox gear ratios which are set by V8 Supercars. Differential ratios are also determined by V8 Supercars and change depending on the track. The cost of a transaxle is $25,000, with each car having two spares – just in case!

Rear Suspension

Rear Brakes

Front Brakes

AP Racing 6-piston front calipers with 395mm ventilated discs. Each team will use three sets of front brake rotors and pads per race meeting. Front brake rotors can reach up to 1000 degrees.

Front Suspension

Category controlled Independent Double Wishbone with adjustable camber, toe and driver adjustable anti-roll bar.

Air Jack System

All cars are fitted with a pneumatic air jack system to raise and lower the car during pit stops for tyre changes.

Tyre Assembly

All V8 Supercars use a Dunlop Control Tyre specifically made for the V8 Supercars. A hard and soft compound of this tyre are used at different times throughout the year. One type of wet tyre is also available. The wheels are Racer Industries 18” by 11” and are made from aluminium. Incredibly each wheel and tyre assembly weighs 22kg.
