Supercheap Auto Racing’s Tim Slade has carried the momentum of his podium at the SKYCITY Triple Crown Darwin into another top 10 finish in today’s 200km race.
Slade qualified 14th for Race 15 of the V8 Supercars championship, and after a strong start made his way up to ninth over the 70 lap distance.
“I’m happy have a solid weekend and three strong results, especially after the run we’ve had lately. It feels like my championship begins now.” Slade said.
“I got a good start and the Supercheap Auto Racing Commodore was easy to drive all race, while also looking after its tyres. I just didn’t have the outright speed to challenge the guys in front.”
Slade said the hard tyre pace of his Supercheap Auto Commodore is encouraging, and he heads to Townsville focussed on continuing his form.
“We were better on the hard tyre, but it didn’t help us with everyone on softs for the majority of the race.” Slade said.
“They boys did a great job this weekend. We’re definitely on the path we need to keeping heading on; minimising mistakes and continuing to collect points.
“We had a good points haul and jumped a few spots in the championship, so I’m excited for Townsville. It’s a circuit and event that I really love.”
Slade leaves Darwin 12th in points, just 33 points shy of 11th placed Rick Kelly.
The V8 Supercars championship returns to the SuperStreet format for round six, the Castrol EDGE Townsville 400, held July 10-12.
